What To See

Discover Zürich’s medieval history by wandering the Old Town which occupies both banks of the Limmat River. Explore cobbled streets, quiet squares and the 17th century Town Hall before walking along Limmat’s waterfront. If travelling by boat has more appeal, hop aboard a Limmat River cruise from April to October, passing under the city’s many bridges. Football fanatics can make the most of the FIFA World Football Museum just a 20-minute tram ride away.

Enjoy the great outdoors Switzerland is renowned for by walking the three-kilometre boardwalk from Bellevue to Tiefenbrunnen along Lake Zürich, taking in the view of Uetliberg. Or if you’d prefer taking in the sights from above, catch the funicular up to the top of Uetliberg to get a glimpse of Zürich and its lake from above set against the Alps in the distance. For nature a little closer to the centre, The University of Zürich’s Botanical Gardens are completely free to explore.

If you are looking to explore a little further afield, spending an afternoon in Rapperswil, a picturesque medieval town set upon lake Zürich, is ideal. The car-free settlement is just a 40-minute train from Zürich main station offering visitors beautifully adorned cobbled laneways, a towering castle overlooking the lake and vistas across the mountains for a truly Swiss experience.
